Finding Pets Made Easy
With so much choice available in supermarkets, there is growing concern over what the best dog food is. Dog owners want to find a healthy option as well as saving money on their dog food. You may spend a lot of time researching the best deals, but do you ever think about what the standards are for them that is sold in this country?
Like anything else, they are regulated by legislation in most countries throughout the world. For example, in the USA all manufacturers must comply with the regulations of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) is careful to monitor manufacturing standards including the ingredients that go into all brands. In the UK, and some countries of Europe, the European Pet Food Industry Federation (FEDIAF) regulated all pet food. This includes guidelines on the manufacture of the food, its labeling and its advertising.
Whilst the ingredients are monitored, this does not mean that what being sold in the United States is monitored specifically on its nutritional value to our beloved pets. In fact many manufacturers are even able to add chemicals to their food which are known to contribute negatively to an animal's health. Not only this, but different ages of animal suit different types of food. Advertising campaigns from the major manufacturers can aim their food at the wrong age of dog, meaning that your pet may not be getting the nutrition that it really needs.
Veterinary research shows that many ingredients of pet food, both in the US and in Europe, can be harmful to animals and call for a strengthening of standards to control the inclusion of additives. Until this is regulated, what can you do to ensure the health of your dog and to make sure that what you feed him is what he needs?
When purchasing them, always be sure to read the label carefully. This will include a list of ingredients, where the top food ingredients will be listed. If you notice that cereal is top of the list this means that what you are buying is mainly made up of ground cereals which are not great for nutritional value. You may also notice several chemicals on the ingredients list, so be wary if there are a large amount or do some research into the effects of these chemicals.
You can also do some research on the internet, reading about the development and manufacture of your favorite brands. Note if they were tested on other animals, what the results were and read any advice about safety to your dog.
Once you have carefully checked the available information you can also ask your vet any specific questions that you are still unsure of. Those this may take a little time, it is extremely important to ensure that your pet lives healthily for as many years as possible. Be diligent when it comes to shopping for dog food and you will soon learn what is best for your pet.

Today, at almost every residence, we find a pet, which is literally the mascot of their houses. Different breeds of dogs, cats, parrots, hamsters, mice, fish are available today in the pet trade. It does not stop there, as people also have a knack for keeping exotic pets such as reptiles (venomous snakes, boa constrictors, tortoises, alligators, monitor lizards, Iguanas), insects (scorpions, tarantulas, mantis) and amphibians (African Bullfrogs, Pixie frogs and Salamanders) too! Also, many different rare colors, variants, subspecies exist within each species.
Therefore, the task to find a pet is much more complex than you think!
There are many phases to consider in successfully finding, maintaining and keeping a pet as a member of your family. They are Pet Feasibility, Find a Pet, Pet Maintenance, Pet Actualization. Let us look at them in brief:
· Pet Feasibility: It means determining if having a pet is right for your home. It involves gauging various factors such as cost for keeping a pet, whether you can afford it in terms of finance, accommodation space, do you have the skills, knowledge, and basic information necessary to care for it, and accumulation of all the necessary data that helps in the prediction of feasibility. Also, many laws exist in different states, countries about what pets are allowed and what are prohibited and/or available!
Generally, animals that are native to that country are not allowed to be kept as pets and some species are not allowed to be imported as they have the potential to become invasive. Ex. The Red Bellied Piranhas and Snakehead genus of fish are banned in the United States.
· Find a Pet: This phase involves finding the right pet for the right home. It is a best-fit approach. Which type of pet do you want? Maybe you would like a playful dog, a cuddly kitten, an intelligent parrot, or maybe an exotic reptile? Once the type is decided, then comes the color, subtype, gender and breed. Then there is the question of whether you want a juvenile or an adult (maybe from a Shelter, or lost and found). Here, we would like to strongly recommend that you adopt a pet from a lost and found institution or the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). These animals have no home, and being partially domesticated, they lack the survival skills of the wild. Adoption is not only the most humane thing to do but you cannot measure the amount of love an adopted animal can give to you!
· Pet Maintenance: This is a most important phase, but unfortunately fails to receive much needed attention! It means giving your pet the respect, love and care it deserves. No living being wishes to be abused willingly. It involves acting responsibly, like cleaning that long overdue fish tank or washing and grooming Fido... or feeding your hungry python! Also, it involves fencing your yard so that your pet does not end up in the 'lost and found' department of the RSPCA.
Today, many GPS (Global Positioning System) chips or electronic tracker chips are installed in collars or inside skins of pets in order to track their movements. Due to emerging technologies today, fewer and fewer pets are finding themselves in the lost and found departments.
· Pet Actualization: This means that your pet lives a self-actualized happy life. The pet finds a meaning to its existence. Any pet will prefer to never be lost instead of lost and found!
Today, there exist many apps for simplifying all of the above phases. Clawpal is one such app we recommend. It has all the features necessary to smoothen out the decision making time required in each phase. We wish you all the very best in searching for your new family member!
